LAZULA by Shannon Chapman

First things first - the Shannon Chapman Band is now LAZULA! While I gradually get all of LAZULA's social media ducks in a row, you can support us by following us here:

Today the crew and I got together in downtown Toronto to have our photo taken by a good friend, Gianfranc Pipitone, who specializes in street and live music photography. While he usually shoots digital B&W, Gianfranc recently picked up a vintage camera in Tokyo and was shooting us on film today, so we're all looking forward to seeing the result!

LAZULA has a show coming up at Annette Studios, Toronto, on April 22nd.

First Post of the New Year! by Shannon Chapman

Hello, and Happy New Year to my fans, friends and family!

I think we're all ready to move on from 2016 - not that it was a particularly bad year for me. It's just that I am so full of optimism regarding the Shannon Chapman Band and the year ahead - I think 2017 will be a big year for me and my music!

Upcoming shows:

Jan 21 @ Annette Studios - as much a social gathering and meeting of the minds as it is a show, the monthly arts showcase at Annette Studios features a jazz jam, a night of visual arts, and a band night. The Shannon Chapman Band is returning to our birthplace almost one year later, alongside Toronto bands Luma, longtime co-host Kori Kameda and the Volume Academy, and new host Alex McCulloch and her band.

Feb 11 @ Orchard Bar - we keep returning to Orchard Bar because we keep having such a great time there! Low-key and relaxed, we like to try out new tunes and have friends join us onstage to elevate the experience.

Mar 11 @ The Paddock Tavern - we are teaming up with Toronto rock & soul band Sister Strange to put together an exciting show for your viewing pleasure! Venue and additional acts will be announced soon.

End-of-Year Update by Shannon Chapman

I'm still coming down from the high of this weekend. On Saturday, the Shannon Chapman Band performed at our regular venue, Orchard Bar in Toronto, alongside solo artist Verhoog, to a very warm and appreciative crowd. We were stoked to premiere some new tunes and connect with some new listeners.

Sunday came around and we gathered in the percussion studio at Humber College to record demo tracks of all my originals. There are some exciting possibilities in our future!

We are going strong and expect to book plenty of gigs in the new year. Keep your eyes open for gig announcements, and in the meantime, you can check out the fruits of our labor from this very productive weekend on the MEDIA page.

Thanks to all our friends and fans.

New Site by Shannon Chapman

Spring cleaning! Out with the old, in with the new.

My first website was beautiful and effective, thanks to the design by my friend Darren Hebner and the photos by my friend Eric Roberts. But I needed to be able to update it quickly myself, and I wanted the look of the site to mesh better with my new sound and some new photos taken by Gianfranc Pipitone, so here we are!

In the new site, you'll notice some small changes like colour, photos, layout, etc. But the one big change was the addition of a "LINKS" page (top right). It is so important to me that artists support other artists, and I have been so lucky to be welcomed in by a beautiful community of them here in Toronto.

The "LINKS" page is where I can say thank you to the people who have been supportive of me in my art, and one small way I can be supportive of them is to direct my site visitors their way. "LINKS" will keep growing and expanding as I meet and collaborate with other artists in the GTA. If you're looking to hire a photographer, composer, or band, or just want to support arts and culture, please check "LINKS" regularly!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

I'm very, very excited to announce that I have put my own band together to perform my original music! We are a 4-piece jazz-soul-pop group and are now rehearsing and booking our first shows in Toronto, starting with a performance April 16th at the Annette Fest April Edition. This is part of a monthly three-night showcase at Annette Studios, featuring live jazz, visual art, and a band showcase hosted by my favourite Toronto band, the 6-piece hip hop/funk fusion band, Mayraki.

The community of people who come together every month at Annette Studios are a spectacular and beautiful bunch of people who will welcome you warmly, and I strongly recommend you attend any of the three nights if you're looking for a laid-back environment in which to connect with some creative souls. Find the event on Facebook or contact me for more details!

New Developments in 2016 by Shannon Chapman

Happy New Year to my fans and supporters!  January is often a time of change and resolution for many people. I don’t usually make resolutions, and I didn’t this year, but nonetheless I’ve ventured into unknown territory this month.

I’ve started writing my own songs. This may not seem like a big deal to a lot of you, but it is a totally new development for me and I’m very optimistic about this turn in my personal journey. I would like to take a minute to mention a few main influences on my songwriting. The first is one of my university mentors, who gave me so much valuable knowledge through classes, one-on-one sessions, and involvement in his projects:

Michael Cain

And there are two absolutely incredible bands that write and play at a level that I can only hope to have a taste of someday, and are currently all I listen to:

Moses Hightower

Hiatus Kaiyote

Mad love to both bands for showing me an entirely new way to listen to and appreciate music!

I’m sharing my new songs with friends whom I trust to give me their thoughts, feedback and advice, and you can hear them too at my SoundCloud page.

Thanks for listening, and all the best in 2016!
